Overview
The Audi Activesphere concept is a revolutionary approach to car design that prioritises not only the exterior beauty of the car but also an open, screenless interior that interfaces with its passengers using augmented reality (AR). By creating a working prototype of the concept vehicle and the augmented experience, Audi looked to envision human, machine and brand in symbiosis.

The Challenge
Our creative team embarked on an in-depth study of applicable user interaction, building upon three contextual drive modes: on-road, off-road and automated driving. The neutral state of the UI allows maximum functionality during traditional on-road driving while allowing driver-centric customisation.
The market needed a solution that could deliver premium visual experiences while maintaining comfort and intuitive usability. Existing products forced users to choose between performance and comfort, while setup complexity remained a significant barrier to adoption.

The Solution
Audi envisioned an experience unencumbered by technology. An additional benefit of our spatial UI execution was enabling the ability to merge AR on top of the external environment. In this way, passengers can gain access to information and heightened controls without sacrificing a connection with their surroundings.
The user interface was simplified to essential interactions, with automatic IPD calibration and single-hand controls. We integrated premium materials with advanced ergonomics, creating a device that adapts to the user rather than requiring the user to adapt to it.
